An apprentice electrician at the University of Wollongong has spread his wings internationally to learn about leadership.
Clint Wiseman, 21, of Woonona, travelled to the United Kingdom this week to participate in a unique training opportunity after being nominated for the Personal Best competition by Illawarra Group Training.
The fourth-year apprentice, employed by Illawarra Group Training and hosted by the University of Wollongong, left Wollongong yesterday for what he described as an experience of a lifetime. He said it was the second time he had been nominated for the competition.
Mr Wiseman was accepted as a finalist after writing a letter and was chosen for the two-week training program after travelling to Maitland for an interview.
``They told me later that day that I got it," he said.
``It's a great opportunity and will help a lot with any career I pursue."
The Personal Best competition, in its second round, is an initiative of Illawarra Group Training's parent company, Hunter Valley Training Company.
The competition acknowledges and rewards exceptional trainees and apprentices, who have demonstrated personal best performance in workplace and community.
Mr Wiseman, who studies at Illawarra TAFE in Wollongong, will participate in situational leadership training and challenges for two weeks at the high quality naval facilities in Dartmouth and Plymouth.
Illawarra Group Training, established 17 years ago, employs over 175 apprentices and trainees with over 50 host employers.
